MEDAL ROLLS OF THE ARMY

The army medal rolls are some of the most useful documents available. All members of the army who served abroad (with the exception of Ireland) recieved at least one medal. The entitlement of these medals are listed on a medal index card. These cards are found at the Public records office. These cards are the index the the medal rolls books and the silver war badge entitlement.

There is a seperate card index for all MM, DCM, TFEM reciepients which gives the London Gazette date of the award and the army order it appeared in.

The suggested research route is to do a medal index card check first and then procede to the two rolls and the war badge or gallantry cards if indicated also in the same room is the rolls of microfilm for the service papers that you could also check whilst you are there.
