THE MILTON TOWN MEMORIAL
Milton had plans for a seperate war memorial which it started in 1917. The memorial was finished after the war and was situated at the Holy Trinity Church, Milton Regis. It was to be found to the right of the path. It was a stone octagon with a cross on. Around the octogon were individual metal plaques listing the fallen. Many are found on other Milton memorials and on the Sittingbourne memorials.
During the great storm of 1987 this memorial was wrecked. A centralised Sittingbourne/Milton memorial was created in Central Avenue. The Sittingoburne Memorial was moved from the rec. The Milton metal name plates were mounted around the Sittingoburne memorial. This is where they are today. The site of the old memorial there are the sad remains which look somewhat forlorn. As i wirte this there is some form of movement looking to return the memorial to Milton.
